Large and imposing photogravure (framed 121cm x 78cm)  by Siir Robert Ponsonby Staple and George Barrable. This is an imaginary depiction of an Ashes match at Lord's but all the leading players of the day are depicted, including WG who is batting.  The players' portraits are shown at the bottom of the picture and the original painting is in the collection at Lord's.  The picture is far more than a cricket item as it makes comment on social history of the time.  The Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) and his wife are shown parading round the ground and are about to pass an enclosure containing the Prince's so-called "Loose Box", a number of ladies he was rumoured to have had a fling with.  The one looking at the viewer is Lily Langtry, the well-known actress who was most certainly a regular mistress of the Prince.  This very large photogravure is rarely found in perfect condition and this example has its share of wear and tear.  Overall it provides a good decorative image though and would dominate any cricket room.
